Welcome to business breakdown episode two. This series is a longer version of my Instagram series “Business Breakdown In 60 Seconds”, where I provide information about a business, such as who their current CEO is, who founded the company, controversial news or general facts about the business, etc. But here on the blog, I will dive just a little bit deeper into each business.
As the title says, episode two is about Apple.

What is Apple?
Apple is an American technology company which is known for selling the famous electronics like the iPhone, iPad and Mac computer. Apple was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1976.

Despite its total worth of 3.47 trillion USD, Apple only has just over 500 physical stores, half of which are in the USA. It’s estimated that Apple sells and about 400 iPhones a minute, according to Apple – Every Second.
Current CEO
After Steve Jobs’ resignation in 2011, Tim Cook became Apples’ CEO.

Foxcon Factory Explosion
A fact about apple is that in 2011, there was an explosion in a Foxconn factory that made Apple products in china. This explosion killed 4 workers and injured 18. The investigation of the explosion uncovered how poor the working conditions were. Although apple didn’t own the factory, they would have likely known about the working conditions.

Child labour deaths
Another fact about Apple is that it was named in a lawsuit about child labour deaths in 2019. Specifically, child workers were either killed or maimed in cobalt mines in the democratic republic of the Congo, which lead the families of the deceased to start a lawsuit against Apple.

Slowing down old Apple products
The last fact of this post is that Apple has received allegations of slowing down their older phones. The BBC reported that in 2020, Apple paid £85 million to settle such allegations.
Essentially, it was said that Apple did this to encourage purchase of their newer models. This issue became very apparent in 2016, where iPhone models 6, 7 and SE were slowed down. Again in 2017, researchers found “unusual slowdowns” in iPhones which was said to have affected millions of people.
